It has been confirmed that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

An Important Comeback for the Franchise

The actors will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Industry whispers indicate their roles will take the form of a future-set scene, given that the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.

This marks the sixth film in the global Hunger Games franchise.

Exploring the New Story

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the majority of the previous films in the series.

The Plot and New Cast

The film's narrative are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several prominent actors in important characters:

• Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
