Former Treasury Secretary Summers Leaves from ChatGPT Maker's Leadership
Former US treasury secretary the Harvard professor is leaving the board at the artificial intelligence firm, just several days after a batch of electronic messages between him and notorious criminal Jeffrey Epstein became publicly available.
Summers remarked in a release that he was "appreciative for the chance to have contributed, enthusiastic about the potential of the company, and eagerly await tracking their advancement".
The prominent academic, who previously led the Ivy League institution, announced on recently that he would be stepping back from public responsibilities due to his relationship with the convicted sex offender.
Email Communications
The freshly disclosed messages revealed that Summers corresponded with the financier until the day before the financier's 2019 arrest for accused human trafficking of minors.
In another announcement, the technology organization expressed it understood his choice to depart.
"We acknowledge his numerous inputs and the perspective he brought to the directors," the company remarked.
Legislative Background
This development comes after the entire Congress of the legislative branch agreed on this week to endorse a measure that would require the US justice department to disclose its records on Jeffrey Epstein.
The legislation will afterward move to the administration of US President Donald Trump for approval. He has indicated he intends to endorse the bill, after changing his position on the matter following objections from his base.
Correspondence Findings
A collection of Epstein-connected messages released by the House Oversight Committee last week referenced numerous well-known personalities in the billionaire's previous network, without suggesting any criminal activity by those figures.
The emails showed that the professor and Jeffrey Epstein regularly had dinners together, with he often trying to link Summers to prominent world leaders.

After the correspondence were released with the wider community, he stated he accepted "full responsibility for my poor judgment to persist in interacting with Jeffrey Epstein".
He continued that he desired "to rebuild trust and fix bonds with the individuals most important to me".
Professional History
The professor occupied high-level positions under party leaders; serving as economic leader under the former president, and as head of the National Economic Council under the former leader.
He headed the institution from five years and remains a faculty member there. When declaring his withdrawal from public duties recently on Monday, he stated he would maintain his academic responsibilities.

Following Summers' statement on Monday, the Center for American Progress, a left-leaning policy institute in the capital where the professor was a researcher, confirmed that the economist was ceased to be affiliated with the organization.
