A Mountain of Anime News Landed Over the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays provide a plethora of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than scanning the headlines: opening presents, getting stuffed on festive fare, and employing meditation skills to refrain from arguing with loved ones. Hopefully you were able to enjoy all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting news items surfaced during the holidays, and should you missed some of them, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising piece of news, the widely-criticized disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter the series' continuation. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the promotional image for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, at this point, they must be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it maintained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now fans are overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been running for some time, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will very likely debut in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

Another studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Right after the airing of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not yet been announced.
